Suffolk County Community College (College) invites proposals from qualified companies to provide Sign Language Interpreter Services for students who have been approved for this accommodation.
The College reserves the right to award multiple contracts with a minimum of one (1) contract and a maximum of three (3) contracts.
Sign language interpreting services are utilized across all three campuses (Michael J. Grant, Ammerman, and Eastern), and in the past, have also included off-site, school related events. Students requiring sign language interpreting services have taken various classes in all disciplines, which range from developmental reading and math courses to high level biology and psychology courses.
The Consultant(s) selected under this solicitation is expected to provide all services in person at the campus location identified by the College. These services may be required to be delivered concurrently across three campuses for multiple students, many of whom may be taking classes at the same time. Courses may also include “hands on” courses such as Culinary Arts. Classes may be scheduled as early as 6:00 AM and run until 10:00 PM or possibly later. While the services included under this solicitation are required to be provided in person, the selected Consultant may be required to provide services remotely.
Historically, the need for the sign language interpreting services varies each semester depending on the College’s students’ needs. In other words, the volume of service is dependent on the number of students who need the service, as well as the number of classes in which these students enroll. Currently, the College anticipates five (5) students requiring the service, but this number may change at any time depending on student enrollment and need. In addition, some of these students may only take a single 3-credit course, while other students may take 5 courses.
