Summary of Specifications:
The Oakland County Purchasing Division on behalf of the Oakland County Human Resources department is requesting sealed proposals from organizations specializing in public sector training for Diversity Awareness. It is the County’s desire to continue providing a training program that supports the following statement:
In today’s workplace, cross-cultural teamwork and collaboration are essential for organizational success. Cultural differences need to be seen as assets in order for the organization to function productively, and conducting diversity awareness training for the entire workforce is sound business practice. The training should stem from the belief that while coming from diverse backgrounds, individuals are inherently capable of working together with mutual respect. Our goal is to not let the lack of familiarity, bias or stereotyping prevent employees from interacting successfully with others that are different from themselves.
Oakland County established a Diversity Awareness Training Program in 1998. This program was designed to assist with strategies for working together with mutual respect in today’s workplace. In October of 2001, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners mandated Diversity Awareness training for all managers, chiefs, administrators, and supervisors. The course is also available (but not mandated) for all other employees. The Human Resources Department/ Training and Development Unit currently offers the Diversity Awareness course on a monthly basis.
