The Traditional Sugar Bush Workshop Coordinator and Instructor (Contractor) will work with the GTB Agriculture Manager. The contractor will be responsible for promoting and hosting a series of sugar bush educational events. This coordination will include the planning, advertising/promoting, developing lesson plans, handouts, and final tracking of attendance for a minimum of 10 workshops from January – September 2024. Additionally, help in coordinating the legal harvest of materials needed for the traditional sugar bush tools detailed in the USDA – ACER grant. These tools include birch bark baskets, cedar/sumac spiles, wooden paddles, and wooden evaporation troughs. Participants in crafting these tools can be paid from the USDA – ACER grant funds for production of these tools that will be used in subsequent years by GTB Agriculture for display and educational purposes. This contract will provide input on how $15,000 worth of USDA – ACER funding will be spent on “advertising” for individual events, and for disseminating knowledge on sugar bush traditional throughout our region. This contract will coordinate closely with the GTB Agriculture Manager to ensure all 2024 GTB Sugar Bush activities include inclusive and interactive traditional sugar bush knowledge.
