2026-19 - Probate and Estate Planning Attorney

The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians (GTB) Tribal Court is soliciting contractual-service proposals for a Probate and Estate Planning Attorney, to: 1.) Provide legal services/representation to persons probating a decedent Tribal Members’ Estate in the Tribal Court; and 2.) Creating estate planning documents for Tribal Members, for one (1) year (FY'2026), (effective on Oct. 1, 2025 and end on Sept. 30, 2026). Up to Two (2) Attorneys will be selected to enter into contracts, to represent a decedent Tribal Members’ Estate, in a Tribal Court Case, within the Tribe’s jurisdiction. The Attorney must be familiar with Tribal laws, Tribal Probate laws, and State of Michigan and Federal laws governing Probate Matters. The Attorney will be required to meet with the family of the decedent, as soon as a case is assigned and thereafter, on a regular basis, as required by law or court rule. Some travel may be required within the Tribe’s Six-County Service Area of: Antrim, Benzie, Charlevoix, Grand Traverse, Leelanau and Manistee Counties.
