The proposed renovation of Hurst Hall will include classroom, laboratory, meeting and office spaces. With the Rady School of Computer Science and Engineering completed the Math and Computer Science Programs have relocated to the new building from Hurst Hall.
This affords Western the opportunity to provide more research space for the Science Department, additional teaching labs, especially for Physics and Chemistry including greenhouse, faculty offices, a more prominent home for the Hurst Museum and student project space in Hurst Hall. Additionally, a proposal for a Nutrition program is in development, that, if implemented, would have increased demands for Chemistry laboratory space from an anticipated increase in student enrollment. The vacated space for evaluation is over 20,000 square feet.
The total project budget is proposed at $4,498,965. This includes $3,197,315 of direct construction costs, $267,808 estimated equipment and furnishings cost and $1,033,842 for project related soft costs. The total gross square footage of the proposed building would remain unchanged.
