The University of Colorado-Boulder Police Department and Parking Services (PDPS) building (482) built in 1992 with a 2006 addition, had a chiller failure in 2023. A temporary chiller is currently being used for one of the condenser units for this cooling season. A feasibility study by Maxson Engineering was completed and the option chosen is to connect the building to the campus-wide chilled water loop. CU is pursuing funding to carry out this renovation work and anticipates design work in Fall 2024 with Solicitation/Bid/Contracts in Spring 2025 and construction in Summer 2025.
Building 482, PDPS, is located at 1050 Regent Dr. A/E will need to pay for parking on campus – website https://www.colorado.edu/pts/parking-rules-and-regulations Utilities will provide the chilled water service to within 5 feet of the building at a point to be designated by the design team. Coordination and information will need to be provided for CU Utilities to manage their work. A Load Study is to be done of the building to properly identify existing mechanical systems. A full account of ALL cooling requirements (whether currently connected to the existing cooling system or not) is required. Client liaison indicates there are three (3) existing stand-alone systems for police dispatch and server rooms (possibly a 4th – mini-split observed on the roof). Several areas have stringent access requirements due to security restrictions. Work is anticipated to include mechanical, plumbing, electrical (MEP), architectural, and structural trades to tie-in the chilled water service to the 3rd floor mechanical room including demolition of existing equipment and materials.
Coordination will be needed while working with Buy Clean Colorado consultant (hired by CU) on any design optimization, material selection, and documentation recommendations/ requirements. Also, Commissioning is to be coordinated with the proper parties as needed.
