The Town of Avon is soliciting proposals to conduct conceptual planning work to (1) assess potential future demand for a regional transit center, (2) assess the potential for expansion of the existing Avon Station regional transit center, and (3) prepare a conceptual design for a new, expanded regional transit center on West Beaver Creek Boulevard adjacent to Avon Road. Avon Station, the existing regional transit center in Avon, has experienced a significant increase in usage and bus traffic with the implementation of Core Transit, the regional transit system for the Eagle River Valley, and the dramatic increase of Bustang and Pegasus transit service to Avon. The Town of Avon also plans to increase its free transit system in Avon with additional bus routes in the future.
The Avon Station area can accommodate 6-8 busses at a time and is often at full capacity. The Avon Station location is not large and is physically constrained between the railroad tracks and hotels, leaving little room for expansion. Space just to the east near possibilities plaza may offer some room to grow. The Sun Road redevelopment may offer opportunities to move the hub to that location. The Town of Avon is generally predicting a need to expand the regional transit center in Avon to accommodate 12-15 buses.
