Pitkin County (hereinafter called the “County”) is qualifying interested parties for the provision of design services for the renovation of the Historic County Courthouse located at 506 E. Main St. Aspen, CO 81611. The building consists of 20,000 sq. feet and currently has multiple courtrooms, offices, and meeting rooms. The Pitkin County Courthouse was constructed in 1890 and is on the National Register of Historic Places as well as the Colorado Register of Historic Buildings. All proposed modifications and modernizing will be closely scrutinized by these agencies for consistency with original design intent and finishes. The courthouse structure is a 2 story brick building on a stone foundation raised to expose the basement. The interior partitions are often massive and ceilings and finishes have been maintained to represent original building design. The awarded architect will be challenged to fit the current judicial space and business model into a building with largely fixed dimensions. The architect will also be challenged to integrate necessary high and low voltage infrastructure and wiring paths into a building with limited hidden raceways while remaining consistent with the original finishes.
The overall budget for construction, design, deferred capital maintenance and other needs is combined to total $1.7 million. Design Development will continue through 2017, Construction Documents will be in 2018 and anticipated construction is in 2019.
The County’s designated representative for this project is Jodi Smith, Facilities Director. The team will include other representatives from the County. The project will rely on input from key tenant representatives with the County.
