Description

Decarbonize DRCOG, funded by a $199.7M federal grant, aims to transition a significant portion of buildings in the Denver region, both residential and commercial, away from fossil fuel technologies and replace them with efficient, electric counterparts–a process known as electrification. Decarbonize DRCOG will operate through 5 key programs:

Rebates and Incentives to mitigate the upfront costs to consumers.
Energy Advising to assist decision makers for homes and buildings.
Free, Full-Service Home Decarbonization for Low-Income and Disadvantaged Communities (LIDACs).
A Building Policy Collaborative to support and unify local governments and their building codes and related policies across the Denver region; and
Workforce Development for HVAC contractors, plumbers and pipefitters, and other related fields.

[1] Defined by EPA and DRCOG for this program, LIDAC refers to any community that meets at least one of the following characteristics:
1) Identified as disadvantaged by the Climate and Economic Justice Screening Tool (CEJST);
2) Any census block group that is at or above the 90th percentile for any of EJScreen’s Supplemental Indexes when compared to the nation or state, and/or
3) Any geographic area within Tribal lands as included in EJScreen.
4) Any geographic area qualified as a DIC by Colorado's Enviorscreen Mapping tool

Please note: in addition to formally defined LIDAC tracts, this program aims to focus on as many vulnerable and hard to reach populations as possible, both within J40 tracts as well as other tracts.
