Institutional Overview
1. Background
Colorado Mesa University (CMU) is comprised of three campuses: the main and CMU Tech campuses located in Grand Junction, CO, with an additional campus located in Montrose, CO. Founded in 1925, the University is a comprehensive regional public higher education institution offering liberal arts, professional, and technical programs at the master's, bachelor's, associate, and certificate levels. Grand Junction is the largest metropolitan city between Denver, Colorado and Salt Lake City, Utah.
The University has an enrollment of more than 10,248 students with more than 15% of the University's student body coming from outside Colorado. The majority of students – 84% – are traditional-aged students and enrolled in full- time study. Many students attend the University while also working and caring for families, and CMU is proud to offer evening, online and distance education classes that allow non-traditional and working students the opportunity to further their educational attainment and advance in their professions.
The University has over 1,000 temporary and full-time faculty and staff with over an additional 1,000 students employed on campus.
The University has a two-year live-on campus policy which requires all non-local freshmen and sophomores to live on campus. There are currently 9 residence halls and 4 on-campus apartment complexes, providing over 2,600 on campus beds. Approximately 2,000 students purchase meal plans.

The University participates in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference [RMAC] as a NCAA Division II affiliate with a total of 27 teams. The total roster for all DII sports is 840+ athletes with 75 coaches representing the teams. Athletic support is provided by Athletic Training, Strength and Conditioning and the Athletic staff. In addition to the NCAA sports the University hosts 20 Club Sports with 450+ athletes.

In the 2023-24 season, CMU Athletics boasted the following accomplishments:

The Sports Medicine Program at the University has grown significantly over the past decade, expanding their staff, facilities, and equipment to support the commensurate volume and variety of student athlete care. In 2024, the Head Athletic Trainer was honored with the RMAC’s Athletic Trainer of the Year award in recognition of the advancement of Sports Medicine not only at the University, but also within the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Athletic Training program utilizes the Monfort Human Performance Lab (an academic facility next door to the Copeland Athletic Training Facility) to provide state of the art injury prevention screening services as well as gauging readiness with post-operative and complex injury patients. The program is very forward-thinking and proactive, as demonstrated by being one of very few Division II programs utilizing a concussion spotter in football games.
Although historically CMU has benefited from various external sports medicine services, this will be its first comprehensive Sports Medicine Partnership.
2. Goals
This Request for Proposal (RFP) is issued by the University’s Purchasing Department on behalf of CMU Athletics and Club Sports. Intercollegiate athletics and club sports are an integral part of both student engagement and CMU’s role in the Grand Junction / Mesa County community. CMU is requesting proposals to develop a comprehensive sports medicine partnership that solidifies roles and relationships in delivering excellent student-athlete care -- including medical director services, athletic trainer and physician staffing, facilities, access to equipment, nutrition, cash, and / or other resources to support student-athlete wellness.
CMU intends to use the results of this solicitation to award a contract, or contracts, for a Sports Medicine Sponsorship. The partnership will enable CMU to develop a strong ongoing relationship with a sports medicine provider(s) in accordance with NCAA requirements and industry best practices. In exchange for proposed Sports Medicine services, testing services, capital improvements, equipment contributions, sponsorship contributions, and other resources CMU anticipates providing sponsorship rights including, for example, logo and tagline recognition, signage, game day public address recognition, and athletic game tickets.
