Colorado Mesa University (CMU) has experienced substantial growth in applications and admitted students in recent years. Despite this progress—including a notable 35% increase in freshman enrollment for the 2024-2025 cycle—the yield rate (percentage of admitted students who matriculate) has remained relatively stable, typically ranging from approximately 20% to 23% based on available institutional data (e.g., ~20.9% in recent reporting periods).
This challenge is compounded by significant turnover among territory managers (Admissions Counselors), a common issue in higher education admissions where high caseloads and burnout contribute to retention difficulties. Each territory manager is responsible for engaging with 1,200 to 1,900 admitted students to build relationships and drive enrollment decisions.
To address these dynamics and improve summer melt while capitalizing on increased admit volume, CMU seeks to implement an AI-powered tool that equips territory managers with predictive insights and targeted, personalized nudges. The solution will enable more effective, proactive guidance to admitted students, ultimately increasing yield and supporting long-term enrollment stability aligned with CMU’s mission and diverse student populations.
This initiative builds on CMU’s prior enrollment funnel analysis and aims to deliver scalable, data-driven support amid high caseloads and staffing transitions.
