Colorado Mesa University is soliciting proposals from Early Childhood Education (ECE) center operators to operate a childcare facility on the University campus. CMU currently operates Little Mavs Learning Center (LMLC), and Mini Mavs Learning Center (MMLC) located in two separate, adjacent buildings on the CMU campus in Grand Junction, CO. LMLC, at 1704 North 8th Street serves toddlers ages 18 months to 5/6 years (kindergarten age), and Mini Mavs, at 880 Mesa Walk, serves infants ages 6 weeks to 2 years.
Convenient and affordable on campus childcare is one of the important benefits Colorado Mesa University offers the campus community. LMLC provides Colorado Shines-rated service for up to 162 children of CMU students, faculty, and staff, and for community members. Our families are diverse and come from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds. With a curriculum based on best practices and designed to expand children’s learning by engaging them in different activities, the center provides experiences that enrich and enhance each child’s cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and creative development. Within the center’s daily schedule, each child has opportunities to create and explore his/her environment, learn problem solving, practice personal interaction skills and absorb concepts through first-hand experiences.
For over three decades, LMLC has taken on the role of both an on-campus childcare center and a lab school, providing a wide variety of different practicum opportunities for students at CMU. The center works closely with the Early Childhood Education program, the Nursing program, and other campus programs.
Both LMLC and MMLC are operating under six-month probationary licenses which will be discussed at the mandatory pre-bid meeting. Copies of the probationary licenses will also provide to offerors at the pre-bid meeting. The current directors of LMLC and MMLC were hired subsequent to the events leading to the probationary status and have made significant positive improvements in process, family relations, staff morale, and standards.
