Description

In 2014, ICON Engineering was retained to produce a Watershed Restoration Master Plan (ICON
Engineering, 2014). In this document, ICON evaluated flood, geomorphic, and ecological risk to
drainageways and infrastructure within the Upper Coal Creek Watershed, and provided
recommendations, guidance, and prioritization for restoration and rebuilding efforts.
Stream Reach 8 was identified in this master planning process as one of the top priorities for stream
restoration and infrastructure upgrades. Between Twin Spruce Road and Crescent Park Drive, Reach 8
functions as the heart of the Coal Creek Canyon community, where retail and commercial enterprises
exist in the community center area. Completion of the proposed work will create more resiliency within the watershed by re-establishing vegetation, removing excess sediment and debris, installing grade control to reduce channel incision, removing or upgrading culverts, and repairing and re-enforcing banks to withstand higher flows.
