In June 2020, amidst the racial reckoning that was occurring nationwide and in Denver, Mayor Michael B. Hancock assigned the Advisory Board of the Agency for Human Rights and Community Partnerships (HRCP) the task of reviewing the names of every city asset (city owned properties/parks/buildings/landmarks) and recommending which assets should be considered for renaming, particularly if the assets were associated with racist groups or ideologies.
Using criteria developed by HRCP’s Renaming Commission and with the input of the Mayor’s 10 advisory commissions housed within HRCP, approximately 20 assets were identified for further research and discussion for renaming. Of those 20, five parks were recommended to be renamed. These five parks are located in four City Council districts.
Through this informal bid selection process, Human Rights & Community Partnerships (HRCP) and Denver Parks and Recreation (DPR) are seeking proposals from skilled third-parties to plan and facilitate the public engagement process for the City and County of Denver’s Asset Renaming Project.
Specifically, we are looking for the following categories of work:
- Work with HRCP, DPR, and City Council to finalize park renaming process
- Meeting planning and facilitation
- Community outreach and engagement
- Documentation/recordkeeping
- Reporting
