202580693 - HSIP FY25 38th and Monaco Intersection Improvements

The City and County of Denver (“CCD”) is seeking an Engineering firm (Consultant) to provide design services for the 38th and Monaco Intersection Improvements Project (Project). 

The project will evaluate the feasibility of a roundabout vs. traffic signal at the intersection. Key elements to consider include but are not limited to; traffic operations, safety of all users, construction cost, and impacts to the existing utilities and right-of-way. Based on the analysis, the project proposes installing either a roundabout or a traffic signal at the intersection. If the traffic signal is chosen constructing an exclusive northbound left turn lane will also be needed. The new traffic signal or roundabout will improve positive guidance for all users of the intersection. Improvements to the intersection will address the broadside crash pattern and is expected to significantly reduce the occurrence of crashes based on a Level of Service of Safety (LOSS) IV. In addition to the recommended alternative, there will be improvements made to the existing curb ramps, sidewalk, curb and gutters, curb returns, as well as pavement markings for enhanced multi modal access. Signal timing plans and work orders will also be required as part of the scope of the traffic signal design project.

All improvements should be ADA compliant in addition to being designed and constructed to current CCD standards and specifications. Any damaged curb ramps, sidewalk, curb and gutter, and curb returns adjacent to the project area will need to be upgraded. Depending on the extent of the improvements, it is possible that existing storm sewer inlets and manholes at the intersection may also require relocation or resetting.
