The residents and businesses within Louisville require high-speed, reliable and cost-effective broadband services. A major impediment to providing alternative broadband options is SB 05-152, which prohibits most uses of municipal money for infrastructure to improve local broadband service, without first going to a vote of the people. In November 2017, Louisville asked the voters for authorization to provide high-speed Internet services, telecommunications services and/or cable television services to residents, businesses, schools, libraries, non-profit entities and other users of such services, either directly or indirectly with public or private sector partners. Voters approved the ballot measure with 82% in favor and 18% against. The City is interested in retaining the services of a consultant or team of consultants with experience in conducting broadband feasibility and needs assessment studies.
