Summary of Specifications:
The City of Durango is interested in contracting with a wireless networking installation vendor to provide a comprehensive wireless LAN for the Durango Public Library which is currently under construction. Libraries present unique challenges for the wireless engineer due to the RF attenuation created by stacks of books and periodicals. Combining this with the need for high security and ubiquitous access on multiple VLANs and SSIDs has led the City’s Information Services staff to believe that a controller-based WLAN is necessary in order to accomplish these goals. The City of Durango has been operating a Cisco AVVID network for three years, and will implement that networking architecture in the new library. As a result, we would prefer Cisco’s Unified Wireless Network over similar offerings from other manufacturers.
