The project consists of replacing the existing woodshop dust collection system in entirety with a new system to serve all the equipment throughout the shop. No diversity is desired in the woodshop with respect to dust collection system capacity and equipment served. All the equipment is desired to be in use simultaneously while the class is in session. The new dust collection system shall be fitted with code required dust collection devices inclusive of fire suppression, spark detection, and explosion isolation devices. The dust collection system shall be evaluated to utilize either a bag house style collector or cartridge style collector. Installation location of the new collector in the courtyard shall be evaluated to allow service and straight distances for explosion isolation devices to be maintained. Access to other HVAC systems, the woodshop storage building, and trash enclosures within the courtyard shall remain. The dust collection system shall utilize standalone controls (there is no desired interconnection to the existing facility building management system for the new dust collector). The owner will review equipment layouts in the shop. Equipment may be desired to move to new locations within the shop to maximize educational delivery and safety, and there is a possibility for equipment being purchased this summer to be included within the dust collection design. All the stationary woodshop equipment shall be relocated by the awarded contractor and connected to the associated utilities. The existing general exhaust systems within the woodshop and supporting finishing space shall be evaluated for replacement with like kind systems and / or improved with source capture exhaust. The existing electrical system serving the woodshop equipment and the new dust collector system shall be evaluated and potentially replaced based on existing electrical loads and new loads for the equipment. Existing electrical bus ducts are present in the woodshop and are to be evaluated for electrical capacity based on the current and anticipated equipment to be powered. The project shall include replacement of existing fire sprinkler heads as needed to provide appropriate coverage with the new dust collection system layouts along with connection to the new fire suppression system serving the dust collector. The existing plumbing and air compressor systems present in the woodshop and support spaces are to remain in place. There is no desire to change the size or configurations of any support spaces. As part of the project, the location and condition of the existing heating and ventilation systems shall be evaluated and take into consideration their calculated remaining life, and determine cost considerations for replacement. Adjacency of these systems to the new dust collection system shall be analyzed to maximize the wise use of State monies. There is currently no mechanical cooling in place for the woodshop and it is not desired to be included as part of the replacement options. If the removal and reinstallation of the existing lights is determined to be needed in relation to the new dust collector system, the lights shall be upgraded to LED. The woodshop’s existing walls shall be cleaned and painted. The project construction schedule is desired for the summer of 2026. This project may include a combination of component level funding and major maintenance funding in relation to the dust collection and other associated systems. The design process is intended to help determine the interconnectivity or dysconnectivity of such systems. As the project progresses through design, the SFC will determine which elements of the project, if pursued, will result in an alternate bid for delineation of funding sources. The purpose of this is for the District to maximize the use of State funds to the fullest possible way for economy of scale through mobilization.
