Specifications include, but are not limited to: Invasive Species Treatment – 88 acres -Within the treatment area, all invasive species. This includes but is not limited to invasive honeysuckle, Japanese barberry, buckthorn, multiflora rose, and prickly ash shall be chemically treated using basal bark and/or cut stump treatment. All stems greater than 2” diameter at breast height shall be treated using cut stump treatment and/or forestry mowed/treated. -All other native shrub species shall be left untreated. - Forestry mowing is an option on approximately 69 acres of the project area. Approximately 19 acres of the project area will need to be treated by hand. Site Preparation Treatment – 88 acres -Cut all woody stems 2” to 12” dbh(diameter at breast height). All trees targeted for removal must be felled to improve safety for future logging operations (basal bark treatment is not an option). All stumps must be cut flat to avoid damage to logging equipment. -All bitternut hickory, elm, hackberry, honey-locust and box-elder must be stump treated with an approved herbicide. - Forestry mowing is an option on approximately 69 acres of the project area. Approximately 19 acres of the project area will need to be treated by hand. -Two small project areas, that total 1.28 acres, will include the removal of red cedar from bluffs. (0.75 acre in no equipment zone & 0.53 in equipment zone) All stems that do not exhibit symptoms of the Krumholz effect will be removed. DNR will assist in the identification of Krumholz effect trees.
