Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Student Health Insurance Program (SHIP) has been administered as a partially funded health insurance plan since August 2002. The Third Party Administrator (TPA) services include, but are not limited to: underwriting; stop-loss negotiation; provider network; vendor negotiation and support; claims processing; utilization review and case management; customer service; compliance; reporting and actuarial assessment. SHIP enrollment is voluntary for eligible Domestic Students and Dependents – with the exception of Medical Students, Physical Therapy Students and Physician Assistant Students. SHIP enrollment is mandatory for Medical Students, Physical Therapy Students and Physician Assistant Students. When directed by the School of Medicine and Public Health, the SHIP office will waive this requirement for Medical Students, Physical Therapy Students and Physician Assistant Students that satisfy the School of Medicine and Public Health waiver criterion. SHIP enrollment is mandatory for registered International Students and International Scholars and any Visa Dependents. SHIP will waive this requirement if the International Student or International Scholar has alternative insurance that satisfies one of the criterions listed on the International Waiver Application.
