Specifications include, but are not limited to:The City of Madison seeks written bids for the cost to clear snow and de-ice the city-owned sidewalks; and, to clear snow from the fire hydrants on the City-owned properties. See the attached maps for the specific routes to be plowed. The contractor should be aware that the City will have the option to include the properties listed in section 2.6 in the service contract at a future date. The City of Madison desires the sidewalks and fire hydrants to be cleared and salted on an as-needed basis to meet the requirements in Madison General Ordinance 10.28 for sidewalk snow and ice removal. Snow and/or ice shall be cleared no later than 12:00 noon of the day after the snow or ice has accumulated on the sidewalks, regardless of the source of accumulation. Further, the City desires sidewalks to be salted when icy conditions exist. Sight clearance at intersections must be maintained. If snow banks are higher than 36 inches they need to be removed back for a distance of at least 5 feet from the intersection. The snow removed from these intersections can be piled in any location on the respective City lots, as depicted on the attached maps, provided that all hydrants and street intersections are properly cleared and the required visibility is maintained. The City of Madison is responsible for plowing the streets adjacent to these sidewalks. The contractor will use best judgment to determine the need for snow and ice removal. If there is a question as to the need for the contractor’s services on any particular day, the contractor may call the designated Economic Development Division (EDD) staff person for a decision on snow removal. Dependant on any storm or weather condition there may be days when sidewalk snow removal and salting is required twice on that day. Again the EDD staff person may be contacted in these instances. Some of the City-owned properties are comprised of multiple parcels. Certain parcels are listed for sale and may be sold during the 2016-17 snow season. Accordingly, the contractor should be aware that a reduction in the areas requiring snow removal services may occur
