Specifications include, but are not limited to: North unit: Bluff prairie clearing scope of work-North Unit.; This work area was burned in the fall of 2021 with most small diameter trees and shrubs top-killed up to 2 inches diameter at breast height (dbh).; Work area-contract work described below will take place within red perimeter polygons on attached map(s). Specifically, on the ground work will occur within and including trees and shrubs painted with red paint, and within a straight line connecting the red painted trees and shrubs. ; Foliar herbicide all live native and non-native trees-including aspen, shrubs, grapes and other vine species except for blackberries, raspberries, native bittersweet, AND the native prairie shrub species Lead plant, New Jersey Tea, and prairie willow. Height of foliar application should not exceed 5 feet to limit overspray and death/injury to non-target prairie flora. Foliar application should seek to adequately cover all leaves of target species enough to induce death while at the same time limit herbicide run-off to non-target species growing underneath target species.; Foliar herbicide application will take place during the active growing season: May 30th-August 15th 2022 and from May 30th-June 15th 2023.; Girdle and herbicide all trees > than 5 inches dbh except for large oaks above the cut bank if included within painted work perimeter (some in this unit included within painted perimeter). Do NOT girdle and herbicide any trees above the cut bank of highway 35 if they pose a risk of dying and falling onto the highway.; South unit: Climate Change Grant bluff prairie clearing south unit scope of work.; Work area-contract work described below will take place within blue perimeter polygons on attached map. Specifically, on the ground work will occur within and including trees and shrubs painted with blue paint, and within a straight line connecting the blue painted trees and shrubs.; Cut and herbicide all live native and non-native trees, shrubs, grapes and other large vine species down to ¼ inch at base of ground except for aspen, blackberries, raspberries AND the native prairie shrubs Lead plant, New Jersey Tea, and prairie willow.; Girdle and herbicide all live native and non-native trees > than 5 inches diameter at breast height. Do NOT girdle and herbicide any trees above or on the cut bank of highway 35 if they pose a risk of dying and falling onto the highway. ; Cutting and herbicide work should occur between the months/dates of October 10-April 20. Permission to do this work outside of this time period may be allowed but only after discussion with DNR Project (Justin Nooker)/Property Manager (Armund Bartz) and associated written permission via e-mail, text or other means.; Cutting and herbicide work will not be allowed if snow depths on-site exceed 4 inches. Contact the DNR Project/Property manager if you have questions regarding local, on-site snow conditions if needed (property manager lives close to site). Permission to do this work with greater than 4 inches of snow may be allowed but only after discussion with DNR Project/Property Manager and associated written permission via e-mail, text or other means.
