Specifications include, but are not limited to: address pavement deficiencies and safety concerns on US 63 between the City of Shell Lake continuing north to the interchange of US 53/63. The pavement along the entire length is exhibiting transverse, block, and alligator cracking, along with edgeline raveling. The segment of highway between Green Valley Rd and WIS 70 has a crash improvement flag. Access points within the City of Spooner and to the north are not permitted and not compliant with current WisDOT access control policies. The first segment of this project begins at the north junction of County B and ends at WIS 70. The second segment begins north of the City of Superior and ends at intersection of US 53/63. This project does NOT include the urban stretch of US 63 between WIS 70 and Poplar Street. The proposed improvement to the pavement includes a surface mill and overlay of the existing pavement of various depths, ranging from 2” to 4”. Culverts will be rehabilitated or cleaned as necessary. Permanent signing will be replaced, and beam guard upgraded to current WisDOT standards. Access control along US 63 within the project limits will be reviewed and revised as necessary.
