Appliance and scrap metal recycling is to provide safe removal, management processing, and recovery/disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous materials from appliances and scrap metal collected by the Streets and Urban Forestry Division, and other City of Madison agencies, as needed. Appliance Definition: Appliances as described under this proposal includes, but are not limited to: • refrigerators, • freezers, • air conditioners, • dehumidifiers, • clothes washers, • clothes dryers, • conventional ovens, • microwave ovens, • ranges, • stoves, • hot water heaters, • dishwashers, • residential furnaces, • garbage disposals, • trash compactors, • heat pumps, • humidifiers, • fluorescent light fixtures (excluding bulbs), • PCB containing ballasts & capacitors, • Ballasts & capacitors not containing PCBs, • tanning beds, • commercial & research equipment, • modern smart appliances (for example, white goods with wifi enabled capabilities or monitors/screens embedded into them like certain refrigerators) • and other similar items.
