Specifications include, but are not limited to: Three Dane County Departments, the Sheriffs Office, the District Attorneys Office and the Clerk of Courts are seeking proposals for credit and debit card services that would allow the public the ability to pay bail, fines, fees, and other costs. Each department has slightly different uses for credit/debit card processing services as follows: Sheriffs Office: The Dane County Sheriffs Office Security Services Division is responsible for the jail facilities. Newly arrested individuals are booked into the jail. Many of these individuals are able to post bail, fines, or fees, and be released from jail. The Sheriffs Office does not accept personal checks of any kind for bail or fines. Thus, families and friends of incarcerated individuals must pay the bail or fine in cash. For many years, the Sheriffs Office has had the use and/or access to a credit card verification/guaranteed payment system. In addition, officers in the Patrol Bureau have also had access to credit card verification/guaranteed payment, in a procedure similar to that used in Security Services. The Sheriffs Office also collects fees for copies, records, civil process, etc.
