Specifications include, but are not limited to: For Installation and Operation Ambient Temperatures between 32°F (0°C) and -20°F (-28°C): 1. Ensure that water is mixed with glycol or other pre-approved antifreeze at a percentage that is adequate for the expected ambient temperatures per the recommendation of the additive’s manufacturer. a. In addition to using glycol, it is highly recommended that all exposed piping and pumps, including that which is integral to the chiller, be heat traced and insulated per the recommendation of the heat tracing’s manufacturer. The heat tracing should be selected based on the lowest expected ambient temperatures. b. It is also highly recommended that chiller pump control be utilized (in the case of a rental chiller) or that any pump connected to exposed piping is constantly circulating to avoid freezes. 2. Main Power and Shore Power connections must be made before system is filled with water. Main Power must be energized during or immediately after filling the system with water mixture. The Power source for any externally run heat traces must also be energized at this time. Chilled Water Set Points at or below 40°F (4°C): Chilled Water Set Points at or below 40°F (4°C) result in internal refrigerant temperatures below 32°F (0°C). As a result, glycol or other antifreeze solution must be used. Contact Trane Rental Services or consult the factory IOM for recommendations of glycol solution percentages and their associated freeze points based on your desired chilled water setpoint. Antifreeze solution percentages found in Trane literature are suggestions only as actual percentages needed for adequate protection may vary by antifreeze manufacturer. All fluid must be drained out of any coils, heat exchangers, piping, and pumps on all rental equipment any time the equipment is not freeze protected in accordance with the “Installation and Operation” section of this document. See below for special instructions regarding certain equipment types. Failure to take these precautions may result in catastrophic equipment damage for which customer will be liable. Special Instructions for Rental Chillers (Unit ID starting with CSCA) Perform the following before or immediately after power is disconnected: 1. Ensure the machine is level, or tilted such that the pump is on the higher end of the machine 2. Open all drains and vents. Ensure that fluid is draining freely. Check for drain line restriction if necessary. a. Ensure drained fluid is collected and disposed of in accordance with any applicable environmental laws and regulations 3. Leave unit to drain until there is no more fluid coming out. This may take up to an hour or more. Do not relocate or release the unit for shipment until draining is complete. 4. Do not close the vents or valves. Leave all drains and vents open even after draining is complete Recommended 5. In extreme cold conditions, flush evaporator with antifreeze solution to ensure residual fluid cannot freeze. Please contact Trane Rental Services if assistance is needed.
