The research project is a collaborative effort between the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources (WVDNR), State Farm, and the WVDOH to evaluate deer-vehicle collision (DVC) rates in West Virginia and identify technologies and practices to reduce DVC's and improve highway safety. A brief summary of the project scope is as follows: Determine the site characteristics and variables that contribute to DVC's. Evaluate DVC: data, collection methods, and mitigation policies/practices in West Virginia. Evaluate other DVC mitigation technologies, policies, and practices that would applicable to West Virginia and should be considered for implementation and further study. Conduct a GIS analysis of DVC's in West Virginia and model probable DVC locations. No additional specifications were given.
