Specifications include, but are not limited to: West Virginia University’s PRT System wishes to solicit professional engineering services to provide a comprehensive design to modernize the electrical, mechanical, and control systems of three gas fired boiler plants that serve three separate loops of the embedded guideway (“GW”) heating system. This system heats a 50% glycol/water solution that is pumped through grid piping in the concrete running surfaces to melt snow and ice and allow the PRT to operate during winter weather events. The existing gas fired boilers will remain and will be controlled by a modern automation system (Siemens). However, the existing pumps and fluid expansion system will be replaced with modern components to achieve a true “closed loop” system.
