Specifications include, but are not limited to: WSDOT Eastern Region is seeking bids for Railroad materials for operator/contractor installation with the following specifications: Timber Industrial Grade Crossties and Timber Switch Ties shall meet the requirements of AREMA Volume 1, Chapter 30, Part 3. All ties shall be Hardwood, End Plated and Pressure Treated. The following hardwoods can be used for Crossties and Switch Ties: 1. Eastern Species: Oak, Maple, Elm, Gum, Cypress, Hickory, Birch, Cherry, Sassafras, Beech, Sycamore, Walnut, Locust. Timber Crossties and Switch Ties shall be pressure treated in accordance with AREMA Chapter 30, Part 3.7.2, by the empty cell process. Ties shall be treated with Creosote-Type Preservatives in accordance with 3.7.4.1. Retention at a minimum shall be as follows: Hardwood (not including Oak or Hickory) 7 pcf. Oak, Hickory 7 pcf. or Refusal Timber Crossties and Switch Ties will be accepted by Manufacturer’s Certification of Compliance to certify the ties meet the requirements of AREMA Volume 1, Chapter 30 Part 3 and by Treatment Inspection Reports.
