Specifications include, but are not limited to: When performing work utilizing mechanized brushing equipment in the removal of trees five (5) inches DBH (diameter at breast height) or larger, the work shall consist of a tree cutting and slash disposal procedure to control vegetation growth. The work shall be performed in the following order: Limbs and branches. All cut material, including tops and stem wood, less than five (5) inches in diameter shall be chipped. When brush machines are used, all cut material, including tops and stemwood, shall be mulched to a size no larger than two (2) inches in diameter and no longer than one and one-half (1-1/2) feet in length. Chips may be blown on site with permission from the land District and District approval. In cases where right-of-way is on public land, permission must be obtained to blow chips on site from the agency governing the right-of-way as well as the adjacent private property District. Where chips are blown on-site, they shall be spread out evenly over the ground with depth not to exceed four (4) inches. Chips shall not be blown up steep banks where there is potential for them to wash back down and fill roadside ditches or where they could inhibit the normal flow of water adjacent to the roadway. Tree trunks shall be felled. All wood five (5) inches to twenty-four (24) inches in diameter shall be cut not to exceed four (4) feet in or per District instructions. All wood over twenty-four (24) inches in diameter shall be cut not to exceed two (2) feet in length or per District instructions. Contractor to report any immediate dangers to line. The removal of danger trees outside the Right-of-Way shall be on a case by case basis.
