Specifications include, but are not limited to: Provide a communications center staffed by medically trained personnel (24 hours per day, 365 days per year) capable of immediately connecting on-call physicians to UNOLS vessels anywhere in the world. Methods of communication include INMARSAT or other satellite phone systems, cellular phone, facsimile, commercial marine operator, direct radio communication, email, web portals, video conferencing, etc. The communications center will coordinate case management and incident records between shifts to ensure continuity of service. Additionally, the communications center will promptly advise the appropriate UNOLS operating institution when responding to a medical incident.
