Maintenance sand shall be free from extraneous material, be naturally occurring, processed by scalping, screened, crushed or washed, round to sub-round in shape but preferable angular, and meet the following specifications. Quotes must be provided on the Price Worksheet (Appendix D). No material shall be delivered until the vendor has been advised by WSDOT, in writing, that the material meets specification. To ensure quality of material after delivery WSDOT may take random samples of the material. WSDOT will not pay for material that does not meet the specifications provided for in this solicitation. The sand is used in WSDOT trucks equipped with hydraulically operated augers, chain flights, and spinners. Contaminants exceeding the material requirement specified above shall be justifiable cause for rejection of the material at the sole discretion of WSDOT. If contaminants are discovered in the material already delivered to the WSDOT ICPs, the material shall be removed by and at the expense of the vendor. Material shall be quoted, ordered, and paid for by the cubic yard. If shipment is made by scale weight, the conversion will be 1.45 tons per cubic yard.
