Website Look and Feel and Navigation Simplification Improve the Washington State Historical Society (WSHS) websites design and structure, making the website easier to navigate. The new design should be modern and visually stimulating while offering consistency and usability. Its also important to remember that a simple/non-complex and elegant solution is desired. WSHS does not have web developers on staff. Bear in mind, a provided template should be simple enough that the WSHS can do the bulk of content transfer. a. Further Promotion of Specific Facets of the WSHS These sections of the site need greater visibility and access. Societys offerings for educators (stories.washingtonhistory.org), as well as the facility rentals, digital image collection, membership, and market/shop/store (note: Market/shop/store are synonymous for the purposes of this RFP b. Social Media and Blog Integration Improve the connection between the website and the WSHS Facebook, YouTube, Constant Contact and Twitter account. Allow for potential future integration of a blog or wiki, and user-generated content. 2. Content Management Improve the ability of WSHS employees to update the websites most commonly changing content through the use of a comprehensive content management system utilizing user permission levels. Training staff on how to use the CMS should also be included. 3. Search Management Improve the federated search on research.washingtonhistory.org, which uses the Google custom search API. 4. Calendar Integration Integration of a comprehensive calendar to the WSHS website that can be easily edited through the CMS. 5. Online Purchasing Integration Design a clean, easy to use front end for users to purchase a variety of items on our website. The purchasing integration should be easily editable with CMS, allowing the WSHS to update its offerings. We already allow for purchase of books, as well as memberships and past issues of our magazines through our Market/Shop function, but these offerings are hard to find and navigate through. Also allow for potential future integration of online ticket sales. 6. E-publications Integration Allow for the publishing of e-newsletters to the website, as well as publishing on our social media sites. 7. Mobile Optimization The WSHS website should be optimized for mobile viewing.
