All tree trimming work shall be done following approved horticultural standards as follows: (1) All thinning, deadwooding, or removal of limbs shall be done in such a manner that the desired shape of the tree will be maintained. (2) All lateral branch cuts must be flush with tree. All leaders or horizontal branches removed must be removed at a side or lateral branch at a 45 degree angle to complement the lateral. All cuts of this type shall be what is commonly known as “Bench Cutting”. All cuts made where there is danger of damaging the remainder of the tree shall be made twice, once above the permanent cut. All cuts of this type shall be what is commonly known as “Jump Cutting”. (3) There shall be no tearing or ripping of bark. On all cuts six (6) inches and over in diameter, the bark and cambium layer shall be rounded to meet the wood. (4) All dead and diseased wood one-half inch in diameter or more and within six (6) feet of a line, crossarm, or pole shall be removed. Additional dead or diseased wood shall be removed as directed by the City.
