Specifications include, but are not limited to: Typical activities for which law enforcement services are intended to include, but are not limited to, altercations between clients, client safety and staff security. The Assigned Vendor Police Officers are expected to use their sworn authority when required to maintain order and preserve peace. Upon the request of HMC Security Officers, the Assigned Vendor Police Officer shall, where possible and available, assist with any law enforcement problems. Typical services shall include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Assigned Vendor Police Officers will supplement already existing Department of Parking and Security Services staff in and around the Emergency Department, where additional authority may be needed. 2. Assigned Vendor Police Officers will maintain a presence in the Emergency Department waiting area. 3. Assigned Vendor Police Officers will be asked to provide assistance to with incidents occurring in the Emergency Department waiting area. 4. Assigned Vendor Police Officers will be asked to assist the Department of Parking and Security Services Security Officers with removing unruly subjects from the hospital. 5. Assigned Vendor Police Officers may on occasion will in conjunction with HMC Security Officers work closely with medical staff, Department of Parking and Security Services staff and other HMC staff, and other agencies, as needed. 6. Assigned Vendor Police Officers will not be asked to assist with medical procedures or restraints currently being handled by HMC staff, unless the event is violet in nature and could potentially result in criminal charges or and arrest. 7. Assigned Vendor Police Officer will respond to calls for assistance throughout the hospital upon request from the Department of Parking and Security Services, after assessment of the need for help. If the dispatcher can articulate that an altercation is occurring or weapons are being displayed, then the Assigned Vendor Officers can be dispatched. 8. Assigned Vendor Police Officers will not be required to perform restraints, unless insufficient other HMC staff are available at the time and where there is potential harm to staff then the vendor will provide support until relieved by appropriate HMC personnel. 9. Assigned Vendor Police Officers will be required to operate radio equipment to communicate with dispatch and mobile units. 10. Assigned Vendor Police Officers will make arrests as needed, however, only as a last resort. Vendor Police Officers will complete law enforcement paperwork, transport and book arrested subject into jail when necessary 11. During the evening shifts, one of the Assigned Vendor Police Officers will staff the Emergency Department waiting area near the X-Ray/Metal Detector location. 12. This police officer presence at the detector position will not be utilized to supplement Department of Parking and Security Services staff on routine calls for services. 13. Assigned Vendor Police Officers assigned to this duty will follow the direction of the Watch Commander(s) however, any changes in assignment or concerns with the assigned vendor police officer will be brought to the attention of the Director of Parking and Security Services, or designee.
