Specifications include, but are not limited to: Strengthen and develop Seattle Colleges’ government relations prerogative and capacity Provide government relations strategic counsel and planning for SCD Provide annual training for SCD leadership and staff covering, but not limited to, legislative districts, how to identify, develop, and prioritize goals to bring forth in legislative sessions at the administration, staff, and faculty levels in conjunction with respective unions, how to navigate relationship building with legislative offices etc. To be completed on a pre-scheduled cadence Planning to include date confirmation and topics of discussion, must be approved by SCD prior to training session Participate in Campus President and Chancellor onboarding processes To include training on navigating legislative sessions, gathering, developing, and presenting campus priorities to SCD leadership and legislative offices To occur within 1 year of start date of each campus president or chancellor Make recommendation and consult with Seattle Colleges leadership on governmental relations strategy Represent the Seattle Colleges through advocacy and education Monitor higher education legislation impacting community college students, faculty and staff needs and interests Monitor and workforce development legislation that may intersect with or be of interest to the Seattle Colleges’ instructional portfolio Navigate both state and city legislatures and their respective schedules, systems, and protocols Advocate for SCD at the city and state legislative levels Provide access to network of legislative offices, at state and city levels, staff, and common-interest parties with whom SCD can leverage common goals in policy creation Lead and provide support in relationship development with legislative offices, and common interest parties both at the state level and at City of Seattle Support with event planning and hosting for legislative office partners, common-interest parties, etc including gratitude events, engagement events, and networking events Required to have on site meeting and /or event space near Olympia for event hosting Communication requirements Monthly meetings during non-legislative session periods Weekly meetings during legislative session periods Provide annual reports on progress made, changing priorities, and developments.
