Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Town desires to construct a new stand-alone chemical building and storage and feed system in order to convert from chlorine gas to safer sodium hypochlorite, convert from soda ash to more convenient liquid caustic soda, improve handling safety of fluorosilicic acid, and provide a centralized and convenient chemical storage facility that can adequately store the plant’s treatment chemicals in quantities suitable to match the plant’s treatment capacity of 3.4 mgd. The proposed work includes the design of new chemical storage tanks, new feed equipment, and a new stand-alone building to house this equipment. The location of the new chemical building will be located on the northeast corner of the plant site adjacent to the existing settling basins. The proposed chemicals are: Sodium Hypochlorite (liquid) for disinfection • Sodium Hydroxide (Caustic Soda) (liquid) for pH adjustment • Alum (liquid) for coagulation • Fluorosilicic Acid (liquid) for fluoride addition • Sodium Hexametaphosphate (liquid) for iron and manganese control. • Potassium Permanganate feed located in the Raw Water Pump Station The work under this Contract generally includes, but is not limited to: • Constructing a new Chemical Feed Building to provide chemical bulk storage and chemical feed of the proposed chemicals identified above; • Provide electrical service upgrades to the proposed Chemical Building; • Replace the existing Potassium Permanganate feed pumps located in the Raw Water Pump Station; • Provide general grading and site improvements to accommodate the proposed Chemical Building • Provide Chemical Building and plant-wide instrumentation and control upgrades and; • All other work required to complete the water treatment plant improvements identified in the contract drawings and specifications.
