Specifications include, but are not limited to:The Contractor shall furnish all labor, materials, equipment, tools, supplies, transportation, supervision and incidentals as may be required to provide Veterinarian Services for presently owned animals by (VSU). . Serve as Attending Veterinarian for the laboratory animal care and use program at Virginia State University, and serve as Veterinarian member on the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). The Veterinarian will report to the Office of Sponsored Research and Program (OSR&P) to serve the needs of the Biology and other departments that perform research on laboratory animals. 2. Attend quarterly meetings of the IACUC, and participate in the semi-annual evaluation of the laboratory animal care and use program and inspection of facilities. 3. Provide veterinary review in the preparation of animal use protocols, and review/approve/modifications animal use protocol as part of the IACUC. 4. Successful Veterinarian shall be required to provide veterinarian care as outlined in The Code of Virginia as required but not limited to Chapter 38 of title 54.1 of the Code of Virginia Veterinary medicine. Provide routine and emergency veterinary care for laboratory animal subjects. Should be within a one (1) hour travel period if emergency should develop, as needed 5. Veterinarian shall be required to develop and deliver at a minimum annual training to identify technical staff, students, and any other constituents authorized on laboratory animal care. 6. Veterinarian must be familiar with regulations and procedures and have the competency to provide training to the staff that works with animals. 7. Provide IACUC training to the Investigator and Institutional Officer (IO). 8. Have the ability to effectively communicate with regulatory agencies, IACUC members and the IO. 9. Expertise and knowledge in grant writing and shall provide at no additional cost, assistance with preparation of grants for animals use and care program support. 10. Veterinarian shall be responsible for damages to property or utilities caused by negligence on the part of the contractor. 11. The Veterinarian will advise on the selection and utilization of suitable anesthetic and analgesic agents and methods of euthanasia. 12. The Veterinarian will advise on the proper performance of surgical procedures and adequate preoperative, surgical, and post-operative care. 13. The Veterinarian will advise on the assessment of animal well-being, as needed 14. The Veterinarian will be responsible for the surveillance, diagnosis, treatment, and control of diseases, including zoonosis control, as needed.
