Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1. Slope mowing shall be defined as the cutting of both herbaceous and woody vegetation which is performed by a tractor equipped with a hydraulic boom and rotary head cutter. All mowing shall be performed on areas overgrown by grass, broadleaf weeds and brush along paved shoulders, behind guardrail or concrete barrier, around official signs and light poles and on steep cut/fill slopes which cannot be tractor mowed. 2. The Contractor shall perform mowing with great care and in a manner that will limit the amount of vegetative debris that is discarded onto the paved shoulder / roadway. 3. All mowed areas shall be uniform in appearance and free from scalping and skips. 4. The Contractor shall mow in the same direction of traffic. Mowing against traffic is prohibited. The approximate center of any median shall be used as a reference to determine the direction of movement when mowing any median. 5. The Contractor shall pay special attention not to mow VDOT wildflower plots or any prepared plant bed. Also, great care shall be taken when mowing around any and all ornamental trees and shrubs. Any plant material the Contractor damages, destroys or causes to prematurely die shall be replaced at the Contractor’s expense.
