Specifications include, but are not limited to:The contractor shall provide all supervision, labor, materials, equipment, tools, transportation, incidentals, and coordination necessary to replace posts and handrails and associated work on a causeways leading to the Virginia Beach Student Center and on a dock associated with the Student Center. There are eight (8) posts on the causeway (three (3) posts on one side and five (5) posts on the other side) and four (4) posts on the dock that needs to be replaced with corresponding rails. The contractor shall remove and replace the damaged top rail and posts by cutting off the existing post and drilling out a 4 inch diameter hole in the concrete, set the new galvanized post with cradle in grout to match the specified material. The new post shall have a cradle for the new rail to be secured with the 3/16” stainless steel pop rivets. The grout to be used shall follow the original contract for the installation of the posts. The following is from the original contract to install the post and handrails on the causeway part “2.3 Grout & Anchoring Cement and 2.3.4, “Erosion-Resistant Anchoring Cement: Factory-prepackaged, non-shrink, non-staining, hydraulic controlled expansion cement formulation for mixing with water at Project site to create pourable anchoring, patching, and grouting compound. Provide formulation that is resistant to erosion from water exposure without need for protection by a sealer or waterproof coating and is recommended for exterior use by Manufacturer.” The contractor shall install the new rails to be sleeved to existing rails using the next size telescoping galvanized pipe with stainless steel Allen head set screws threaded into the underside of the rail. On the Causeway, the handrails shall be replaced from seam to seam. On the side with three (3) posts being replace there is one (1) handrail being replaced. On the side with five (5) posts being replaced there are two (2) handrails being replace.
