Specifications include, but are not limited to: 3.1.Meet with City Staff to discuss work plan and initial ideas regarding site specific requirements. 3.1.1.Interview individuals with knowledge of the history and evolution of the site (Department staff-current and former) 3.2.Address: (during the process of a full evaluation of Purcell Park and the challenges that may be present, relocation of amenities may be an outcome that would be acceptable to the City) 3.2.1.Playground/Kids Castle Kids Castle – One of the highlights of Purcell Park is "Kids Castle". This structure was erected as a “community build” project in 1990. The work was completed by volunteers of the community, investing their personal time and talents to provide this amenity to the children of Harrisonburg. Age, weather and wear and tear have all contributed to the deterioration of this structure and on-going inspections have revealed the continual disintegration resulting in increased safety concerns. The intent of the City is to reconstruct the playground beginning in FY20. Success of the redesign and construction will be directly impacted by the selected firm’s engagement with the community. Therefore, the selected firm will be required to present a full engagement plan with the community and other key stakeholders. The outreach should include direct communication with our youth, for their input and ideas creating a new “Kids Castle” reimagined and ready to serve our community for years into the future.
