Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Virginia Dep. of Game and Inland Fisheries is soliciting for the services of responsible contractors to provide crews, equipment and supplies for hazard tree felling. Contractor will fell approximately 100 large diameter trees growing adjacent to Tumbling Creek Road and Laurel Bed Lake Road. Downhill slopes are steep and equipment may be required to access and fell trees safely from the roadway. Contractor will fell trees to the downslope side of the roadway when possible. Contractor will be responsible for removal of any logs, branches, debris that may fall onto the roadway, on the upslope side of the roadway within 20 feet of the centerline or that projects into the roadway. Contractor will not be required to remove any logs, branches, debris that falls to the downslope side of the road unless it projects into the road. Contractor will cut trees so that a stump of 14 inches or greater remains above the ground level to promote sprouting and regrowth. The road will be closed to public during tree felling. Therefore, the contractor is expected to work without substantial interruption during daylight hours from commencement to completion to minimize loss of public access due to road closure. Some vehicle traffic from DGIF employees or other contractors may require brief interruptions. Contractor and all personnel shall comply with the “Virginia Best Forestry Management Practices”.
