Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Contractor shall furnish all labor, tools, materials, equipment, staff and supervision to provide an Atomic Force Microscope to Radford University as stated below: A. The AFM must be a research grade instrument. Partial evidence of this qualification would be verified use of images from the AFM in peer-reviewed publications in American Chemical Society (ACS) or American Physical Society (APS) journals. Further evidence would be written testimonials of principle investigators from other higher education institutions. Please include in your response. B. The AFM must have vibration isolation capable of z noise levels of 50pm or less. C. The AFM must have proven imaging capability for 2D materials, such as graphene, thus the z 50pm noise level requirement in Section B above. D. The AFM must be capable of imaging in both liquid and air environments. E. The AFM must be easy to use with little time requirement for tasks such as laser alignment. The University does not have dedicated research assistants that will be operating this equipment. Instead use will be limited to 2-3 hours at a time. As such, it is important that the time be used as efficiently as possible. An instrument capable of cantilever self-alignment is required. F. The AFM must be capable of detecting non-adjustable external vibrations and consequent automatic re-measurement of the current scan line. G. Would prefer an AFM that is inclusive of a scanner, camera, micrometer stage, active antivibration table and airflow protection integrated into a single device. H. Acoustic enclosures must be included. I. Imaging modes for the AFM package must include static mode, dynamic mode, phase imaging, magnetic force microscopy (MFM), and Conductive AFM. J. To increase utility across the University departments of physics, chemistry, biology and geology, the instrument should be capable of a varying range of sample weights with sample sizes up to 5cm x 5cm x 5 mm. K. XY position must have reproducibility to < 10 μm. L. Contractor shall ship, deliver and install the AFM (building and room will be provided to Contractor awarded the bid). Payment will be made upon acceptance of the Atomic Force Microscope (acceptance is defined as completion of installation and confirmation equipment is operational). M. Contractor shall provide training on the AFM upon completion of installation. Please include details of training as well as number of hours/days, etc. that would be required for the training.
