Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1. Overall Project Goals a. Each Virginia State Park is unique and focuses on interpreting its significant and distinct stories and resources. This project will result in an exhibit at each identified park which: 1) leaves visitors with an understanding of what makes that park special. 2) is engaging, immersive, interactive, and mission-driven to supplement and enhance the visitor’s experience when in-person interpretive programming is unavailable. 3) is educational and correlates with the Virginia Standards of Learning where reasonable and appropriate. 4) drives visitors out into the park to discover the essential experiences it offers. 5) incorporates accessible and timeless design which appeals to the park’s diverse audiences. 6) is welcoming, complements existing structures, and flows seamlessly into adjacent areas such as retail displays. 7) is fabricated to high-quality industry standards, ensuring durability and longevity. 8) provides a “best in class” experience that exemplifies Virginia State Park’s character and mission. b. Each installation will be unique, however VSP expects the projects may include, but are not limited to, some or all the following elements: 1) Updated/modernized exhibit content, graphic panels, displays, interactive programs, photographs, murals, display transparencies, scale models, full size models, sculpted or cast human figures, dimensional maps and displays, topographic maps, dioramas, artifact mounts, interior signage, menu and bulletin boards, information desks, storage units, seating, structural elements such as display walls, platforms, barriers, and other display support structures. 2) Creation of multi-media content and displays, lighting systems, audiovisual presentations, interactive programs, tactile/hands-on elements. 3) A description of additional and specific needs as well as proposed topics for each site are outlined in Attachment G. 2. Planning/Design a. The Contractor Shall: 1) Develop a unique exhibit design for each site which meets or exceeds both the overall goals as stated in this RFP and the site-specific needs as outlined in Attachment G. 2) Collaborate with VSP staff to develop content and design that appropriately and authentically conveys the unique character of the park. i. At each site, vendor will meet with the site advisory committee to develop and refine stories and themes to be incorporated into the exhibit as well as establish overall aesthetic and identity. ii. VSP recognizes the importance and value of consulting and engaging with the Federally and State Recognized Indian Tribes of Virginia. As such, where exhibit topics will include discussion of the history, culture, or community of Virginia’s Indigenous peoples, consultation will take place in keeping with VSP’s Tribal Consultation Best Management Practices. 1. The VSP Tribal Liaison will initiate and guide the consultation process with the appropriate Tribal Nation(s). 2. VSP Tribal Liaison will coordinate final approvals of tribal related content. b. Planning and Design services shall include, but are not limited to: 1) Developing a thorough understanding of the context and goals of the parks as well as the existing exhibit resources that are available for use. Contractor shall incorporate these resources in a way that makes the best sense for the design and project budget. 2) Development of the exhibit concept, storyline, and theme.
