Training Curriculum Development: o Develop training modules aligned with the Virginia Literacy Act requirements, emphasizing evidence-based instructional practices. o Incorporate evidence-based strategies to improve reading and writing skills B. Content Standards: o The curriculum must align with the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) for literacy. o Offerings must incorporate the content in McGraw Hill’s Wonders. o Utilize the International Literacy Association (ILA) and the National Reading Panel (NRP) recommendations to guide training content, the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), and the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). o Address diverse learner needs, including English language learners and students with disabilities. o The program must reflect the five (5) components of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, reading fluency, and comprehension. C. Training Formats: o Offer a blend of in-person workshops and virtual training sessions o Provide recorded sessions and resources for asynchronous learning o The training schedule must include multiple sessions throughout the academic year to cater to varying teaching schedules. o All training materials must be provided in advance, including digital resources, manuals, and participant guides.
