2.1. General Requirements A. Contractor shall provide all Work, Equipment and Materials for the thinning of timber on thirteen (13) pine plantation tracts, located on approximately three hundred (300) acres of City of Newport News Waterworks property in York County, Virginia. B. Contractor shall harvest the product derived therefrom and pay the City at the contracted price for each product type. C. All thinning and harvest works shall be completed with fourteen (14) calendar months from the date of order. The City's desire is for all works to be completed, and the contract closed by October 1, 2026. D. Thinning is segmented into two as detailed in E and F below. E. Segment I Thinning - (Non-Selected): Contractor shall select and harvest sufficient quantity of the smaller size, defective and poorer quality trees to reduce the average total basal area (BA) to 80ft2 per acre. Tree selection will favor keeping loblolly pine, oak, yellow poplar and hickory to maintain sufficient growing stock. Corridors will be approximately 12’ wide and approximately 40 feet to 50 feet apart with individual tree selection between the rows. The best quality trees for producing future sawtimber logs will be left. F. Segment II Thinning - (Pre-Selected): Retention trees have been pre-selected by Waterworks staff, identified with red/orange bands around the bowl of the tree. All red/orange banded trees are reserved. Additional trees may be added during harvest to meet basal areas (BA) targets averaging 80ft2 per acre. G. Maps and technical assistance will be provided to the successful Bidder by City Waterworks. 2.2. Tract Locations (see attached map for detailed tract location) The locations of the thirteen (13) in plantation tracts are as indicated below and more specifically described in Attachment A (Tract Location Map). Tract boundary lines are identified with red/pink flagging and red/pink painted bands on perimeter trees. A. One (1) tract (identified as timber stand A43) is located inside Waterworks gate D2, off Denbigh Boulevard, approximately 1.3 miles west of U.S. Route 17 in York County, Virginia. B. One (1) tract (identified as timber stand A23) is located inside Waterworks gate D7, off Denbigh Boulevard, approximately 0.5 miles west of U.S. Route 17 in York County, Virginia. C. Four (4) tracts (identified as timber stands A29, A30, A34, A36) are located inside Waterworks gate O6, off Oriana Road, approximately 0.8 miles west of Route 17 in York County, Virginia. D. Four (4) tracts (identified as timber stands A16a, AP1, AP3, AP5) are located inside Waterworks gate O2, off Oriana Road, approximately 1.5 miles west of Route 17 in York County, Virginia. E. Three (3) tracts (identified as timber stands A18, A40, A41) are located inside Waterworks gate O3, off Oriana Road, approximately 1.47 miles west of Route 17 in York County, Virginia.
