Eligible Nurseries and Sales Nursery must be located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. This program is for retail purchases only. Landscaping contracts are not eligible for this funding. A $25 discount will be available on eligible trees and shrubs valued at $50 or more. The maximum tree size eligible for this program is 2-inch caliper. The "Eligible Native Species” document lists approved native tree and woody shrub species eligible for the discount including guidance on eligible native cultivars for the Throwing Shade VA program. Program Implementation Place provided tree tags on eligible species in their nurseries. The tree tags, provided by DOF, will contain a QR code that customers must scan to link to a survey they will complete to record how many native trees they are purchasing and where the trees will be planted. The discount is meant only for trees that will be planted within the Commonwealth of Virginia. View survey confirmation prior to giving the customer the discount. The number that appears under the “thank you” is how many trees the customer recorded.
