The Virginia Department of Transportation (herein referred to as “VDOT”) is soliciting bids from qualified firms to provided Three Corrugated Aluminum Pipe Culverts with Aluminum Structural Plate Headwalls and delivery to Amherst County Va. The contractor shall furnish and deliver Three Aluminum Pipe Culverts with Structural Plate Headwalls and all incidental components per attached drawings (Attachment A) in accordance with the referenced sections of the Virginia Department of Transportation 2007 Road and Bridge Specifications or most current edition and notes below. a) Pipe and headwall shall be in accordance with AASHTO M219 or ASTM B746 with a minimum thickness of 0.150”. b) Headwall shall be designed by a duly licensed and registered Virginia Professional Engineer who will provide VDOT with sealed drawings and calculations. c) Manufacturer’s representative, with at least two years of experience in the installation of this type of structure, is required to give technical advice with the assembly and installation of structure and headwalls through completion of the installation. Manufacturer’s representative is not to be considered a contractor and VDOT will not be liable for any labor he/she may provide. d) The culvert stub shall be integral with the headwall by means of a full periphery weld on both the interior and exterior of their junction. e) As a matter of expedience and to the extent practical, the headwall-culvert system shall be delivered from the manufacturer completely assembled with the conduit fully welded to the headwall inside and out along the conduits full periphery. All other headwall items such as wale beams and wale nuts, reinforcing ribs, top caps, and any other items associated with the headwall shall be shop assembled and delivered to the jobsite ready for installation. VDOT at its sole discretion will have the right to inspect the headwall and associated materials for compliance with this portion of the specification and shall have the right to reject any material that it deems to not be in compliance. It will be the suppliers responsibility at no additional cost to VDOT to provide materials that are in compliance with this specification. f) All steel components shall have a hot dipped galvanized coating. g) All headwall materials and subsequent conduit shall be manufactured by the same company. h) Supplier shall provide all necessary materials including the headwall, conduit, wale beams, top cap, deadman anchors, reinforcing ribs, threaded rods, bolts and nuts, and any other items incidental to proper design and construction.
