Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1. The general area to be swept is a minimum of eight (8) feet adjacent to all curbs and the right and left sides of the roadway, including any gutters, bridge catwalks, medians, turn lanes, mainline, ramps, loops, gore area, areas around traffic islands, pavement at interchange ramps and along bridge curbs paralleling and adjacent to traffic lanes. 2. The contractor shall vacuum any leaves prior to sweeping and is responsible for collecting, removing and disposing of all waste and debris from all pavement areas and including from drop inlets, median barrier walls, or other raised structures that abut to or are adjacent to the roadway and turf areas. Sweeping and debris removal shall include, but is not limited to, the removal of all dirt, vegetation, sand, gravel, and other loose materials. The waste and debris may contain salt, de-icing chemicals, and other residue used for treating roadways during snow and/or ice removal operations. Leaves may be vacuumed simultaneously with the sweeping/cleaning operations. 3. All areas shall be swept and cleaned so that no waste material or debris remains on the roadway, bridge deck, in gutters or in drainage structures. The contractor shall be required to make as many passes as necessary to provide a clean surface. If sweeping a divided highway and a second pass is necessary, the contractor shall be required to go to the next crossover to return for the second pass.
