Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1. Nursing Services provided to all students, teachers, and staff and include: • Administration of medications and treatments • Immunization screening and documenting • Vision and hearing screening and documenting • Mandated reporting of suspected child abuse or neglect • Communicable disease screening and reporting, care management and follow-up • Assessment, triage, and referral to community services/resources (medical, dental, social service, mental health, food, clothing, shelter, etc.) • Medicaid enrollment • Health education 2. Preventive Health Care Services, defined as non-curative health services provided to students with parental consent, teachers and staff. These services will follow preventive guidelines and may include: • Health screening • Disease prevention (e.g., immunizations, communicable diseases, etc.) • Dental services (exam, x-ray, prophy (cleaning), fluoride, sealant, treatment) • Preventive services and education such as nutritional education, mental health screening and high-risk assessments and health maintenance 3. Primary Health Care Services are provided in a comprehensive, integrated, and accessible manner and in partnership with the staff/faculty, student, their family, and their primary care medical provider/dentist to manage acute or treat chronic disease are defined as: • Acute illness care • Oral health screenings and assessment followed with appropriate services • Health Maintenance (well care, immunizations) • Chronic Disease Management • Mental health screening and assessment followed with appropriate services • Provision of interpretation services to include foreign language and ASL • Non-specialty medical, dental, mental health, and substance abuse interventions • Referral for specialty services not available or permitted at the school health center (i.e., specialty services, neurology, psychiatry, optometry, contraception) 4. Support Services, which may include: • Drug and alcohol awareness • Smoking cessation • Nutritional counseling • Parent/guardian education • Peer education • Health education • Physical Activity and Exercise awareness
